AND ON PARENTS...
of parents (49%) with children from 5 TO 7 YEARS old who still wet their bed feel HELPLESS
Two thirds of parents say that THERE IS NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION ABOUT BEDWETTING, so here’s some advice if you’re facing the bedwetting challenge...
Remember it’s not your child’s fault. Children develop at different rates and will need your support when they get upset. Reassure your child and help them on the path to working through it.
Be aware of your child’s toilet habits. Consider limiting large amounts of fluids before bed (without dehydrating them) and make sure they get plenty of drink earlier in the day. It’s a good idea to have your child use the toilet 20 minutes before bed and again just before they lie down for sleep.
Don’t be afraid to speak to your child, to understand how they feel and how you can support them. Comfort them that you are there to help. Plus make their path to the toilet easy and well-lit. You can use a potty in the bedroom if easier.
Changing sheets, duvet covers and bed clothes in the night can be frustrating. You can prepare for accidents with night-time protective underwear like Ninjamas® Pyjama Pants to help keep your child and their bed dry. With its 360° FormFit belt and Instant-Absorption-Technology, Ninjamas® Pyjama Pants provide up to 12 hours of discreet leakage protection; the perfect reassurance for you both!
Encourage your child to drink plenty during the day, but only have a small drink before going to bed if necessary. Reward your child for drinking well during the day and for helping change wet bedding rather than for keeping their bed dry, which is beyond their conscious control. And don’t forget to think positively; they can try repeating the phrase "I can be dry!" as they get into bed.
You can always talk with a trusted healthcare professional, for instance your GP or paediatrician. They will be able to share tailor-made advice on how to best support your child as you go through the bedwetting journey.
